The AP reports that the Obama administration is refocusing its efforts to tackle the foreclosure crisis by offering assistance to help homeowners who owe more on their home than its worth. Announced last March, The Federal Housing Administration is putting into place a plan that "will allow lenders to give borrowers refinanced loans if the lender agrees to forgive at least 10 percent of the original mortgage amount". According to documents published by the FHA, the plan is projected to help between 500000 and 1.5 million homeowners. Previous efforts by the Administration have fallen short of expectations. The AP reports that analysts at Barclays Capital estimated that the refinancing program would aid between 200000 to 300000 homeowners.
