Bernard Hickey details the key news overnight in 90 seconds at 9am in association with the BNZ, including revelations in the Sunday Star Times over the weekend about Mark Hotchin's deals with property developers in the final weeks before Hanover Finance's loan book was handed over to Allied Farmers. Hotchin has confirmed personal guarantees over loans were forgiven in the final weeks. Allied Farmers is furious over what it says is Hotchin 'helping his mates escape a sinking ship'. Those developers were now 'smiling like cats' says Allied MD Rob Alloway. Meanwhile, Icelandic voters have rejected a plan for them to repay the debts of an Icelandic bank that borrowed from Dutch and British savers. The deal would have lumbered Icelandic voters with repayments of US$135/month each for 8 years. Now the Icelandic govt must renegotiate the deal It raises questions about where the buck stops in a world of globalised banks and sovereign bailouts. Will voters pay when the music stops? Meanwhile, China plans to nullify guarantees given by local governments for lending, which will help slow down lending growth.

Hayworth Campaign Launches New Ad: mccain on mccain PHOENIX, AZ. March 3, 2010. A new video shows Senator mccain saying he is confident that voters will judge him not for what he has done for Arizona during his 28 years in Washington, but bizarrely what he might do for them. That might be a good strategy on the part of Arizonas senior senator, as the video shows puzzled voters trying to answer the question, What has Senator mccain done for Arizona? This video, mccain on mccain, was released March 3rd by the campaign of JD Hayworth, the conservative challenger to the moderate mccain. In the video, Sen. mccain is heard saying that he is confident that the people of Arizona will judge me on not what Ive done for them, but what they think I can do for them. Most politicians who have spent as many years in the US Senate as mccain would be expected to run on their record not their potential. Vulnerable to the more conservative Hayworth on taxes, pro-life issues and illegal immigration, mccain has resorted to attacking Hayworth on spending, despite Hayworth having a better lifetime rating from Citizens Against Government Waste. Hayworth has a 98-percent rating from the American Conservative Union. mccain also voted for the $850 billion bailout of the big banks which included $150 billion in earmarks, proposed a $300 billion bailout for mortgage lenders and, according to the Heritage Foundation, sponsored an amnesty bill that would have cost taxpayers $2.6 trillion over the long-term.
